To say that it has been an incredible start to the competition season would be the understatement of the year!
DC19 was started after many many many years of being totally against the idea of competing in dance for a multitude of reasons.
As passionate dance teachers and lovers of dance as an art form, it was a decision that we really struggled to make due to a strong belief that dance is too subjective to be judged in the same way that sporting events are.
That being said, it was hard to ignore the the world of competitive dance wasn't going anywhere and was growing at a rapid pace, as well as the huge positives we can teach young people through working as a team and work hard consistently toward a common goal.
We decided that we would take the leap and start a team with the understanding that we wouldn't allow our values to be filtered for the sake of winning and the team would be a vehicle to further help us in the mission of showing young people how hard work, supporting others and being respectful can enrich your life.
In the competition world it is very normal for teams to be built by audition only, inviting only the best of the best into the team, leaving all the other children wanting to be a part of the team and perform week after week, to wait until they were "good enough".
We categorically did not want this to be something we were about and decided to build a team that was open to anyone that wanted to join.
NO AUDITION - NO QUESTIONS
We still wanted to be a team that produced high quality work and went out there with the ambition to win but the winning was not the most important factor. The winning factor, as cheesy as it sounds, was to offer everyone on the team a space to progress into the dancer they are capable of becoming.
This strategy and ethos is paying off in bucket loads, with the first 2 competitions of the season done, we have left with unbelievable results and more importantly comments from judges and organisers on how kind, supportive and professional our dancers are at these events.
Here are the results from our first 2 competitions, well done team!!!!!
